This drone is processing sensor data, understanding natural language commands, identifying objects, planning motion, and executing control, all in 40ms. This is what happens when foundation models meet efficient inference. The models get smaller and faster while maintaining capability. The hardware gets cheaper while getting more powerful. The intersection makes previously impossible applications suddenly viable. A few years ago, this required thousands of dollars in compute, pre-mapped environments, and cloud connectivity. Now it runs locally on hardware that costs less than a nice dinner. I understand the feeling that we must do something, urgently, but it is also important to psychological come to terms with the bitter reality that international coordination failed when it was still possible. (Btw, I lost a lot of sleep over this in the late 80ies and 90ies, when the public and media mostly did not care at all.)

I can't tell you how many days, weeks, probably months by now I've spent writing something completely from scratch without any dependencies, natively, all in order to just replace a $9/month subscription of someone else's software that has been worked on and refined and is backed by tens of millions of dollars and has the best and latest features all the time.
Make sure that whatever you're working on is actually feeding towards your ultimate end-game goal, not just getting stuck in the loop of "oh, I can make this tool that will do xyz for me." Let me spend the next three weeks making it from scratch and exactly how I want it instead of paying a quick subscription fee and getting to use it right away.
